Thank you Mr. Pournaras. My faith, my family and hope all encourage me each day. I have been blessed with a great mother and father, and they love and support me more than I could ever have wished for. I hope God blesses your son and heals him. Please let me know how he is doing. I leave tomorrow for UNC children’s hospital for a surgery that I will have on my left foot this Tuesday. I hope to be back in Charlotte by the end of the week and will have a cast and therapy for about two months.

Julia, you do not know me but I heard about your amazing story from your older sister. My son is suffering from Neuroblastoma, a rare cancer in children, and he is only 3 yrs. old. From reading your story you gave me hope that with strength, faith in God, and the will to live, all things are possible. Hello Julia! Today I saw your site for the first time. We are a family from Holland (Europe) and our 9 year old daughter Leonie was born with Freeman Sheldon Syndrome, just like you.
She will be facing a spine surgery for her scoliosis in the course of this year, so we are interested in all kinds of information about this. Very good to read your diary. I think you are a very brave girl.

Hey Julia!
I am so glad to see that you are up and running… (well maybe not running)! But anyway, it is great to see how fast you are improving!
The other night, i think it was Saturday, i was outside and i looked at the sky. In the middle of the big grey mess of clouds was a little patch of carolina blue sky. It reminded me of you in the way that throughout this whole ordeal, there is always a positive looking place, or refuge, that is in the distance, but not out of reach. A little while later, the patch got bigger, which could symbolize how you will soon be much better and able to come home. I don’t know if that made any sense, but when i saw that i thought of you so i wanted to say it.

I bet the food blew you away since you got on the real stuff.
We had a split up with the family for the first time for the Thanksgiving Holidays. Your Cousin John’s Varsity Football team is is the defending 6AState Chanpionship from last year and have been the ranking number 2 team in the nation. They are in the playoffs each Friday night and tonight is the the 3rd round. They have been practicing each day toward tonight’s game against a south Alabama team. John is ready to get it on with popping the football and hitting the stretch of the field with the team. Since last year we understood this would happen during Turkey Day and a split visit with Aunt Janet’s family. After yesterday’s practice me and John went out to town and ate big time at our local Ryan’s Restaurant. it was good but weird without the rest of he family. I wish we could have come up to God’s Country, UNC, and share some time.
We wish you and the family a great Thanksgiving Holiday weekend as you begin your departure from the hospital.

Julia,
You do not know me, but i was reading an update on your page in regards to Micah who is staying down the hall from you. A girl I go to church with is having a hard time because of Micah’s critical condition, and i wanted to find out how he was so i can do my best to comfort her. Then i found myself reading your entire journal. I just wanted you to know, I’m a freshman at Carolina, (that in itself caught my attention! good for you loving the heels! you chose the right team!) and i love it and UNC is definitely the place to be, in all aspects of life. But, I used to work at a Therapeutic Horseback Riding Ranch outside of Concord called Wings of Eagles Ranch, and there was a girl there that had your same condition. You seem like such a remarkable and inspiring girl! I know you will be just fine and i wish you the best! Work hard, and i just know that you’ll be at UNC in 4 years I’d be more than happy to give you a tour!

Happy Thanksgiving Julia and your family! I wanted you to know that I’m still thinking about you daily and am marveled by your amazing recovery! You are one strong girl. Just a quick update on Nicholas’ soccer team tournament this past weekend…we lost every game…not so good so when you see Nicholas again, please tell him his team missed him. I’m hoping that you will be back in Charlotte very soon, but I also know that you are being taken care of by a wonderful group of people. Oh, one more thing…just remember that when you feel up to spending your day down in the teen playroom, just come back to your room from time to time to say hello to Mom and Dad! You will be dancing soon!

Dear Julia, Ms. Frances told me you saw her and you gave her all your hugs. I do hope you were able to save one for me too.
I am glad the surgery is done. Now is the time to focus your time & energy on healing.
Listen carefully to the instructions of your health team. They all are working together to help you heal safely, not just quickly. Sometimes it will hurt to do your exercises. Tell your parents if this happens. You can cut back on the frequency or number of times you do the exercise, but just for a day or two. Sometimes strength returns slowly.
I also hope you have continued your study and practice with Iconography. I would love to have an original Icon “by the hand of Julia”
May our Blessed Theotokos enfold you & your family in her arms and wrap you with her love, warmth and healing.

What a day today! Your breathing improved, you got the chest tube out, took a few steps and heard from the Tarheels B-Ball team. Julia,
It’s me again. I just wanted to let you know that I’m glad that you are showing some improvement and I wanted to let you know that I have been praying for you every day. I know all the prayers that you are recieving are going to do you great good as you start to heal. I wish you the best and lets hope you can get out of the ICU soon… even though home would be better. Still goodluck with your recovery and i can’t wait to hear from you when you are out of the hospital and this whole thing is just a blur in your mind (i can’t even remember being in ICU and trying to communicate with my parents. but i did). I’ve noticed that you have a lot of friends that seem to care about you and that is the best thing you can have at our age.

HI family,
Sounds like rest is what Julia needs to regain her strenght and start to breath on her own. Its a nice day here as well. Chandler ’s team lost in their last round today, sometimes its just not your weekend! Well there’s always the spring season.Taylor is at a play at her school, and Kev is cleaning the pool. but with everything we do you are all on our mind and in our prayers.

You may not remember me but i was in your sunday school class a year or two ago. We talk about you all the time in sunday school now and hoping to see you back here in January!
You are a great role model and i admire your courage and perserverance through your sicknesses. You’re a srong girl and don’t ever give up on your dreams. I’m so happy to see that you are doing better!

Julia,
I have been following your progress, you are such a trouper!! Each day that passes finds you getting stronger and stronger and before you know it, you will be home! We all feel honored to have your family share how you are doing in such a personal way. You truly are part of a remarkable family- you so fortunate to have them and they are so fortunate to have you as a wonderful daughter! I didn’t realize you had 2 brothers and a sister too! There’s nothing like brothers and sisters encouraging you to get better! I’ll give you any “important” school news -but it’s “boring” without you there! ( Don’t tell your teachers I said that! )

We are so happy to hear of Julias progress and the love and joy all of you are sharing. We will continue to keep all of you in our prayers and include Micah in them as well. We will be lighting candles for them both today in church. May Juluas progress continue and may the Lord grant Micah recovery to complete health and instill in him and in his family the strength and determination that all of you share together.
